Balkan Reunion Pub(lic) Conference

Balkan Reunion Pub(lic) Conference

"Gostilnica Rimskata Stena" (Roman Wall Pub), Sofia
May 28 - 31, 2004

In spite of its geographical and cultural proximity the Balkans of today are still disunited like no other part of Europe. There are many reasons behind the divisions and most of them have to do with ancient, new and most recent history. The Balkans could be a stigma, an anti-advertisement or a career vehicle for local artists, curators and theoreticians. There is an interest in the Balkans from both within and without. This project explores the reasons for this interest and how it is manifested.
The project covers everything you have always wanted to ask, know, say or show about the Balkans (and their art/culture/history) but was afraid to do so, on a non-Balkan soil...
The Balkan Reunion project is meant to provide a venue and a natural context for an all-Balkan anti-alienation action. Curators, artists, theoreticians from the region flock together in Bulgaria for an event much like a family reunion.
