International conference with the participation of Prof. Hans Belting and the curator Andrea Buddensieg

Digital culture and the emerging new virtual worlds are but a part of the reason why we talk about the growing importance of images in contemporaneity. Images are turning ever more into emancipated "grammatical" units for communication and knowledge of the world. However, what is an image is a question as obvious as it is obscure. This is a problem not only for the theory of art, the visual and media disciplines but for the entire field of the humanities. Within the conference this question will be asked on the basis of the writings of the historian and theoretician of art Prof. Hans Belting, the author of the book "An Anthropology of Images: Picture, Medium, Body" (2011, Princeton University Press). Prolific investigator of problems about "the end of the history of art", the image before the age of art and numerous other studies in the field of history and theory of art and visual culture Prof. Belting will deliver a lecture titled "An Anthropology of Images or Iconology". The lecture will evolve into a debate on the topic and that will be followed by a presentation of the exhibition "The Global Contemporary. Art Worlds after 1989" by its curator Dr. Andrea Buddensieg
