The Persona project is exploring the visual side of individuality – as an appearance, integral behavior and identification attempts that both reveal and disguise the essence of the individual's personality.

Throughout the ages the visual perception has been influenced by concrete cultural practices and characteristics of the time. Nowadays, media like photography and video that are mimetic by nature are prompting the spectator to go back to the notion of the visual – in the spirit of Plato's tradition – and try to capture the manifestation of the actual in the fragmented and incomplete reflection of the image. On the other hand, our society is dependant on commercial visual models and very often communication becomes hostage of the obvious and the collective identity.

The works in this exhibition are focused on images that go further then the predictable. The artists are presenting individualities that undermine stereotype and social models in favor of the more liberated fulfillment of the personal.

This project is taking place with the kind support of the National Culture Fund, The Art Office Foundation, Goethe-Institute Sofia, "Terra Altera" Association, the Institute of Contemporary Art – Sofia and the "Art - Affairs and Documents" Foundation.
